Tips to Host a Successful Golf Tournament

  • On March 15, 2023

Golf tournament events are a dual success. These events can be relatively easy for an organization to plan, and supporters who attend them are capable and ready to spend much money.

You can use as many or as few of the suggestions mentioned in this article for your golf fundraiser. Even though the world has evolved, people’s passion for golf has not. We’ve included six steps for starting your golf fundraiser and a few extras you might incorporate in your event to raise as much money for a cause.

1. Figure Out Your Budget

Setting a budget for your golf tournament is a crucial first step, and this will influence how you spend the budget and define how much you can spend on the event.

Making a budget can also help you determine how much money you should make from fees and sponsorship.

Calculating a per-head cost is a viable approach to figuring out how much to charge participants. Calculating the total cost of the event and dividing it by the total number of participants is the simplest method to proceed.

After calculating a per-head price, you might want to include an extra margin—for profit, altruism, or error—as a safety net.

2. Find and Pick a Golf Course

This is the most important choice you’ll have to make when organizing a golf event. The success of your event depends on your choice of golf course.

First, consider the caliber of players you anticipate attending. High-level golfers prefer to play a prestigious or difficult course. They may even be more prepared to pay more for the privilege.

Second, you must have a solid understanding of numbers. A location with one course should suffice if you are planning to host more than 144 guests; however, if you wish to have between 144 and 288 guests, you should look for a location with multiple courses.

3. Find Sponsors

Another approach to raise revenue for your event is through sponsorships. Corporate sponsorships should be customized for each firm you contact.

Other businesses can sponsor a “hole” during your golf tournament. This can be made available for a few hundred bucks in return for adding their name and logo to signs on a certain hole. Businesses may spend more to sponsor a hole at a putting competition or a hole-in-one. Finding a different sponsor on every hole is a smart practice. Provide the business the chance to set up a table at the hole so they may share their treats.

4. Order Merchandise

Many of your supporters would be delighted to purchase products supporting your cause. They would value getting something to remember you by. Your donors will love taking home branded golf balls or reusable water bottles they can use on the course, as well as commemorative t-shirts.

Use your sponsorship opportunities to your advantage. The title, platinum, and gold sponsor tiers are fairly common. However, watch for other unique chances for more sponsorships, like on-course refreshments, specific holes, competitions, lunches, prizes, or gifts.

  • Branded shirts, hats, scorecard holders, golf balls, and more
  • Gifts for participants and winners
  • Allow sponsors to put their logo on Different Items, Such as the Golf Towels or Tees

Print House boasts an extensive array of branded golf items, spanning from golf balls to leather scorecard holders. This means that you have a wide variety of items available to meet the needs of golfers, who rely on having the right gear and accessories to play their best on the course.

5. Pick a Golf Format

Choosing the format is a crucial aspect of organizing golf tournaments. Popular styles include scramble, net stroke play, best ball, and match play.

The optimum format will be determined according to the time available and the average golfer’s ability level. On average, an 18-hole golf course takes about 5 to 6 hours to finish.

  • Net Stroke Play

In this format, players compete with each other and record the lowest net score; the player with the lowest net score is the winner. Since this format is easy to remember, it is popular among new and professional players. Moreover, it is a fair format because it gives equal opportunity to every player to win the game. Adding the game to your tournament will excite the players, and more sponsors will invest in the game.

  •  Best Ball

You are a member of a group of two to four players, and two-player teams often play the best ball. Although you play each hole normally, your team’s score is the best one after the hole. In other words, your team will receive a 4 if you receive a 5 and your partner receives a 4.

  •  Scramble

This format allows the group to decide the best team shot. The players take one shot and wait for the audience to choose the best shot. Now, the players will take the second shot from the same spot. Scramble is a casual and fun game popular for charity tournaments.

  • Match Play

The most popular style of golf is stroke play. Keep track of the number of strokes to complete each hole; your score equals the sum of the 18 holes. The winner is the one who makes the fewest strokes.

You compete against just one other person at a time in match play. Although you compete to win holes, how many strokes you use overall is irrelevant.

6. Promote It

It’s time to talk about using the power of event marketing to draw attendees to your event now that you have a handle on planning a golf tournament. Since the following tactics are excellent suggestions for any campaign, you’ll be at least somewhat familiar with them if you’ve ever planned an event.

Create a website, select an app for event registration, or publish your event on an event website to attract participants. This should be comprehensive and make it simple to follow the instructions for the next steps. You can promote golf tournaments with these tools:

  • SMS texting
  • Email list
  • Flyers, posters, and postcards
  • Social media accounts
  • Press releases
  • Newsletters
  • Partner with other organizations

Also, configure your event registration emails to contain a confirmation, a reminder, and an upsell for other paid events.

Final Words

Any golf event that is a success should be able to thank everyone who contributed. You should address thank-you letters to specific individuals, such as sponsors, attendees, volunteers, committee members, and vendors.
